[...] My real PVR configuration, however consists of a home-built, dual tuner BeyondTV box that I built back when I reviewed BeyondTV months back. Sling has an extensive library of codes to control different devices in all sorts of categories, and they’re adding more all the time… but there weren’t any codes available to control BeyondTV using the Slingbox and the remote control I’ve been using with it (the 45 button Hauppauge remote that came with my PVR-150 tuner cards), so I made one. Knowing that they can’t possibly have every code available, Sling has built a very simple but quite powerful option right into the setup wizard: the ability to add your personalized remote control codes directly into the Slingbox. I used a combination of the knowledge at hifi-remote.com, Remote Master, this tutorial and a bit of technical know-how to make a remote file that would allow the Slingbox to control my BeyondTV box, and upload it into the Slingbox. Here is the resulting file, in case anyone else has a similar setup at home and doesn’t want to go through the work of making the .bin files for the remote. This should work if you have one of the 3 new Slingboxes, the 45 button Hauppauge remote that comes with the PVR-150, and BeyondTV 4.x. It might work for other configurations, but of course I haven’t tested any other ones. Also, if these files screw up your Slingbox, I’m not responsible. :) [...]

I'm glad to hear that you can set up two shows on two different channels (broadcast at different times) and still get BeyondTV to automatically tune from the first channel to the next one scheduled to record (ala NBC to ABC).

For some reason I can't get my Gemstar Guide Plus for Windows (came standard with my ATI All In Wonder) to do that.

The thing all these reviews miss is a sadly lacking feature available in Sage TV, Replay TV and Tivo. The ability to record a "theme" or "category" of shows.

For example, the ability to record all movies starring Woody Allen.

Beyond TV can find the shows, but then you have to select which ones you want one at time. Incredibly tedious for a broad based theme, like record all movies released in 2005.

I've had a really bad experience with their software and support. With opening support tickets and getting the software to work. I have NOT received any responses from my 4 support tickets. You can't contact them via phone and they do not answer any emails.

I've been trying to get an RMA for the bundle I purchased but have not.

I'd stay away from the software and company.

See my posts on their website forum at http://fourm.snapstream.com. My user is fasteddie.

Padding is a global option, and applies to everything you record, in my experience. Whatever you pick for padding goes before and after the show, and I don't know of a way to change either one separately. Hope that answers your question!

Can you set padding on a per-show or per-recording basis? Can you have different padding before a show vs. after a show?

Hey, great review. I'm a huge fan of Snapstream and Beyond TV. I'll have to check out that issue with the show padding. I haven't noticed that before. I've got 3 tuners now, but I think I'm going to pick up a couple more before the Olympics!

Hehe, I was always a fan of Cabot.. Stephanie March in real life...you know, the hot, blonde ADA. I was sad when they "killed" her off.
