H20-Powered Calculator.
by Chris CoyierNigel’s Eco Store is selling a 12-digit desktop calculator that runs on water-based batteries.
“Powered by the revolutionary H20 water battery – this patented technology utilizes two electrodes made of special alloys, when immersed in water the resulting chemical reaction produces electricity.”
I didn’t even know such wizardry existed. Apparently when the battery runs out you can just refill it with water. Each fill will last it 2-3 months and the battery has a lifespan of at least 2 years.
The calculator costs £14.99 (~$30), but it doesn’t look like they ship to any non-European countries.

Yes, it is simple chemical reaction. It isn’t much, but an efficient calculator is definitely a good app for that. I used to make potatoes run clocks and other such small things based on differences between electrodes. The water is part of the reaction that creates the flow of electrons.
