Swann Digital Private Eye.

Gadgets, Home and Life, Reviews, Useful Things by Richard

Recently, I was sent the Swann Digital Private Eye to check out. I found that it worked as advertised, and was so simple to set up/use that didn’t even have to crack open the instruction manual. It’s simple: a motion activated, covert digital camera.. great if you live in an apartment and can’t afford a real security system, but would still like to keep an eye on things, or if you want to see which roommate keeps using your milk. It runs on batteries or AC power, and I had it set up and working in about 5 minutes… All I had to do was take it out of the packaging, insert an SD memory card, find a place for it, plug it in and turn it on. It comes with a mounting bracket and screws, if you’d like to mount it on a wall.

It didn’t take long for me to get some results with the camera… the day after I set it up, the pest control guys who work for my apt complex came to spray the apartment. It took pictures every 30 seconds from the time the door opened, to the time they left, and then it kicked on when I got home and took snapshots of me when I got back home and put my stuff down. All I had to do to see what it had recorded was pop the memory card into my PC, and they just came up as standard JPG photos. Nice! It also can function as a webcam if you need one in a pinch. If you’re interested, you can pick one up at Circuit City for around $130.

Those pest control guys (or anyone else) can do a lot in 30 seconds. Any way to speed up the picture taking?
