They’re little silicone clips that go on the corners of your chopping board and which keep the chopping board off of the counter top and usable on both sides if you usually switch between meat and anything that’s not meat during meal prep. My friend David sent me a link to this site today, and I just knew I’d have to post about it. fiverr is a marketplace where the only accepted amount of money is $5. You can list things that you’ll do for $5 and browse a whole library of things that people will do for you for $5. There are some pretty interesting things in there, like “I will draw or paint you a picture with my toes for $5“, things that are more useful, like “I will review, edit, and rebuild your resume in a highly professional manner for $5“, or even just plain awesome things like “I will send a hand written letter from a fictional character to your child for $5“.

We all know that razor blades and printer ink cartridges are a racket, where they sell you a cheap device that can only function with something else that is expensive, and which you use up relatively quickly. We’ve had ink refill kits for years for inkjet printers, but up to now there’s been no real equivalent for razor blades except for letting them sit in mineral oil between uses to prevent oxidation/rust, which quickly dulls a blade. RazorPit aims to change the game by giving you a simple place to clean your blades effectively, and apparently it does such a good job that you can get up to 150 shaves from a single blade. If it works, it’s well worth the $32.

If you have an iPad and you love to browse your friends’ photos on Flickr and/or Facebook, you will love Flickpad. I saw the demo video and bought it immediately. Browsing my friends’ photos on Facebook.com, Flickr.com, subscribing to a Flickr RSS feed, or even using the iPhone apps that I’ve tried before just didn’t cut it. This is the only way that I’ll be browsing those photos from here on out.

Flickpad is one of those apps that can only be done on a device like the iPad, literally letting you touch, flick, tap, slide, and zoom your photos. It’s full of great little touches that show that a lot of work has gone into it. For instance, if you flick a photo off of the screen, it’s marked as viewed. If you flick a photo off of the screen with 2 fingers, it marks all photos from that person as viewed (this is good for times where someone uploads 100 pictures of their trip to a bread factory).

If you tap and hold a photo, you get different options. You can save photos right to the iPad, email them, favorite them on Flickr, comment on them on both Facebook and Flickr, and even favorite them on the device itself. When you’re done browsing photos for a particular day or week, you’re given 2 boxes filled with photos… one holds all photos that you’ve seen for that time period, and one holds all photos that you’ve favorited for that time period. So good, and highly recommended. It’s $6.99 on the App Store.

Nokero has a vision to replace the kerosene lamps that are used around the world world with their lights, which are not much bigger than a standard light bulb. They’re solar-powered, LED lit, provide 4 hours of light on a charge, are cheaper to use than a kerosene lantern, and rainproof.
Great idea! It’d be good to have some of these around here before the next hurricane creeps into the Gulf.

The YikeBike seems like a great solution for urban dwellers who need a small, eco-friendly mode of transportation that they can take pretty much anywhere. It’s an electric, engineering marvel, which weighs 22lbs, folds up very compactly, but which still goes up to 15.5mph and fully recharges in 40 minutes. I wish I could ride one of these to work.

I received a MoviePeg to test out today, and I’ve found it to be an ingenious little invention… While most companies are making pretty awesome full-fledged iPhone stands that look like tiny Apple monitor stands, or that wrap around other objects to position themselves, MagneticNorth has created an iPhone stand that is completely unique and highly portable.

Once you’ve seen it in action, you’ll wonder how you didn’t come up with this idea yourself! It’s just a well designed piece of plastic that can be positioned wherever you’d like to place it on your phone. Where you place it controls the angle of the phone. It’s that simple. I used it tonight to hold my phone while I made biscuits in the kitchen. Some of the batter got on the MoviePeg, and that’s when I realized one of its other major strengths: It wipes clean with no problem. Awesome.

Silicone tape is an amazing thing, from all accounts that I’ve heard. It doesn’t stick to anything but itself, but boy, does it ever stick to itself (if you let it touch itself accidentally, it starts to fuse together immediately). For hose/pipe leaks around the house, electrical work, wrapping splices and a whole lot more, it’s super useful.
